Outdoor Climbing Competitions

Across the country, climbing has been expanding and diversifying. From the granite blocks of Lincoln Woods to the schist of Smuggler’s Notch, outdoor climbers are challenging themselves on new routes. The University of Vermont offers a number of courses in rock climbing throughout the fall and spring semesters, including one focused on top rope climbing.

Students learn to set up and use safety equipment, as well as the fundamentals of movement on a rock wall. This class is perfect for those with little to no experience and can be a great foundation for advanced climbing.

Mischa (he/him) found his love of climbing at the Burlington Rock Gym and was hooked from there. Now he spends every moment he can at the crags of the Northeast and West, pushing hard on crimps and soaring through cracks. He believes that cliffs, boulders and outdoor spaces are incredible places of belonging for everyone. He is an AMGA single-pitch guide and a NOLS Outdoor Educator.

Open Climbing Competitions

Climbing, hill walking and mountaineering are activities that carry a risk of personal injury or death. Participants should be aware of this risk and take responsibility for their actions.

The Youth Climbing Series is a UK-wide series run by the BMC. The events are aimed at young climbers in the IFSC youth categories Junior, A, B and C (roughly 12yr to 19yr). Competitors compete in rounds at different climbing walls across England and Scotland. The best performers in each category in each round will go through to a final. The YCS is part of a wider competition in which the best young climbers in each country (England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland) are selected to form a British Team.

Regional Climbing Competitions

With the Dartmouth climbing wall undergoing renovations, students have been going to local facilities in order to practice their skills and compete. One such place is NH Climbing & Fitness in Concord, which offers both indoor and outdoor rock climbing. The facility also hosts a series of competitions.

The Youth Climbing Series is ideal for intermediate and experienced young climbers, aged 8-17, in categories Youth E to Youth A. The series consists of four rounds, including two boulder and two route rounds. Each round is ranked and the best three out of four are taken into account to determine the final ranking.

The YCS is an important event in the year for Scottish competitors, as it is used to select climbers for the GB Development Squad from which the GB Climbing Team is selected for international competitions. This is particularly important in the case of the upcoming 2023 European Lead and Speed Olympic Qualifier events.

Maximizing Social Media Competitions to Boost Your Entries.

How to Use Social Competitions to Enter For Free

Getting serious about comping means making it a habit. Set reminders via your phone and calendar to listen out for radio competitions, enter daily instant wins or check a few curated sites regularly.

Don’t be like new compers and flood Facebook and Twitter with share comps – this will reduce your chances of winning. Also don’t ignore email notifications (as the winner can roll on to the next entrant).

1. Facebook

Using Facebook competitions to gain entries is a very effective way to reach out to your audience, especially when the giveaway is linked to an event or a holiday. It also allows your audience to share the contest on their timelines and friend circles, generating further exposure for your business.

Remember that Facebook regulations are quite strict in relation to running promotions. Make sure that you include a detailed terms and conditions which includes a disclaimer that states that your promotion is not endorsed, sponsored, administered by or associated with Facebook.

The most important factor for running a successful Facebook competition is an appealing prize. You can use free visual marketing tools like Canva to design an eye-catching post that will stop people in their tracks when scrolling through their news feeds.

2. Twitter

If you have a lot of followers on Twitter it can be a great platform to run your competition as your audience is already there. It is possible to gain a large number of new followers with just one Retweet and you can even use Gleam’s website embed feature so that users are taken off Twitter to your own website where they can also enter your competition.

A question and answer campaign can be another effective way to engage your Twitter audience – ask a question and have entrants reply with the correct answer. This can be done in a sweepstakes style where winners are selected at random or merit-based where the best answers are rewarded.

Remember to keep your entry requirements simple – asking people to follow and retweet multiple accounts or to like a post is likely to put them off, plus it makes winner verification much harder. Also try to communicate all important details about the contest within your tweets, not just the hashtag and link to your external rules page.

3. Instagram

A simple tag-to-win contest is easy to run and does a great job of improving your Instagram profile’s organic reach. It also gives you an opportunity to grow your following and capture new leads.

It’s important to choose a prize that fits your audience. Partnering with another business with a similar audience can help you split the cost of your prizes while increasing your reach and engagement.

Love One Today maximizes their conversion rate by ensuring that their contest page has images of the prizes they’re offering. This will allow skimmers to understand how they can win. They also include entry instructions in simple, easy-to-read bullet points so that even the most casual reader will know how to enter. This is a crucial best practice that you should always follow.

4. YouTube

YouTube is a real monopolist in the online video world and has massive reach. It’s a great place to promote your contest and build your audience.

Make sure you comply with the rules and guidelines for running a giveaway on YouTube (and any other social media site where your contest is being promoted). You must ensure that your giveaway is free to enter, that there’s no purchase necessary, and that it discloses any sponsorships or affiliations.

The easiest way to run a YouTube giveaway is to ask people to subscribe and turn on bell notifications in order to win. However, this doesn’t necessarily help you identify and choose a winner fairly. A tool like Gleam helps you to verify all entries and pick a winner at random.

5. Pinterest

As one of the fastest-growing social networks, Pinterest offers a platform for businesses to host a contest that is easily sharable. These types of contests can be used to garner insightful user feedback, promote new products, build followers and increase website traffic.

When planning your own Pinterest contest, make sure you have a clear understanding of what you want to achieve from it. Be wary of setting too many entry requirements – this can discourage people from participating.

Often, home design brands ask participants to pin photos that showcase how they use their products, while fashion brands gather images of users showcasing their latest clothing line. Other types of contests are feedback and comment-based. In such cases, entrants are asked to comment on a particular pin for a chance to win the prize.
